Summer Screen to Return to Croydon
Platform Ruskin Square’s Summer Screen will return to Croydon next week, for a third year of enormous big screen outdoor entertainment.
From Monday, 27 June, all the thrills and spills of Wimbledon will be broadcast live on the specially-installed screen, giving visitors the chance to soak up the expected sunshine whilst cheering on their favourite players.
In keeping with the season, both Pimm’s and strawberries & cream will be available on selected days throughout the two weeks of the tournament, whilst anyone inspired by the on-court antics will be able to practice their own backhand on two Ping! tables.
As well as tasty treats and table tennis, there will be a pop-up lawn and deckchairs so that visitors can enjoy the view in comfort.
Sponsored by Croydon Business Improvement District, Summer Screen will be open from 12pm to 8pm each day throughout the Wimbledon tournament. Following the finals on Sunday 10 July, the big screen will return to Platform Ruskin Square just a few weeks later, when all eyes will be on Britain’s sporting heroes in Brazil.
From Friday 5 August, Summer Screen will be showing all the action as athletes embark on their South American journey. Visitors can enjoy Brazil's national cocktail Caipirinha – in both alcoholic and family-friendly non-alcoholic varieties – as well as showing off their own sporting skills in a rowing competition, on a ‘smoothie bike’ or by taking part in a basketball shoot-out.
Platform is part of Schroder UK Real Estate Fund and Stanhope Plc’s nine acre Ruskin Square development which will provide five new office buildings, 625 new homes, shops and restaurants, and attractive new outdoor public space.
Jason Margrave, Development Director at Stanhope Plc said:
“We’re delighted to be bringing Summer Screen back to Croydon. The venue has proved hugely popular each of the last two years, and with such an exciting summer of sport ahead of us we’re really pleased to once again create a space for Croydon’s public to cheer on their sporting heroes this summer.”
Croydon BID is committed to supporting the town centre business community with a programme of summer entertainment.
Matthew Sims, chief executive said: “We are delighted to be part of the summer screen at Platform Ruskin Square offering yet another destination in which to enjoy a programme of major sporting activity this summer. From the likes of Djokovic, Murray, Federer, the Williams sisters, Muguruza to Bolt, Farah and Ennis-Hill, the screen will have it all.”
* Open from 12pm to 8pm, Summer Screen will be at Platform Ruskin Square from Monday, 27 June until Sunday, 10 July. It will then return on Friday 5 August, and will be open until Sunday 21 August.
