Refreshed Ruskin Square car park gives Croydon a boost

A Croydon car park has undergone major refurbishment as the transformation of the town centre gathers pace.

The 565-bay Ruskin Square Car Park has been completed to complement construction of an exciting business, residential and leisure quarter on a nine-acre site next to East Croydon station.

Schroders UK Real Estate Fund, in partnership with developer Stanhope, are well underway with their £500million programme on to create 1.25 million sq ft of much-needed new office space, 625 new homes and 100,000 sq ft of new shops and restaurants at Ruskin Square.

Having been refreshed at a cost of £4million, the transformed car park in Dingwall Road has reopened as a state-of-the art facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As a result of the construction programme, an attractive new pedestrian entrance has been created and the environment for users is much improved.

The state-of-the-art car park includes 24 blue badge bays and four EV charging stations while CCTV is in operation.

Neil Meredith, head of asset management for Schroders, said: “Improving the car park was a priority for us and, along with initiatives such as bringing the second Boxpark to Ruskin Square, it underlines our commitment to creating the right kind of atmosphere in the town.

“The key for us is creating the kind of environment so that people want to live and work in Croydon and the refurbished car park is another major step forwards towards our ambitious vision for Ruskin Square and the town as a whole.”

Residents have begun moving into Vita Ruskin Square, more than 160 beautifully designed luxury apartments delivered in partnership with Places for People.

Meanwhile, internal fit-outs are currently taking place in preparation for around 2,500 HM Revenues and Customs staff to move into One Ruskin Square, the first major office development to be delivered on the site, in June. The 183,000 sq ft of Grade A offices was designed by shedkm architects and built by LendLease.

HMRC also has an option on a second office block for which detailed planning permission has been secured.
